Starting the week of October 17, residents are encouraged to place leaves and yard waste on the pavement in the curb and gutter in front of their homes. Yard waste is plant material such as flowers and garden material. Remember to place your leaves and yard waste away from storm inlets as leaf and plant decay can clog storm sewers and add unwanted nutrients to Lake Michigan.
Branches, sticks, and other woody material should not be placed in with the leaves. This woody material should be placed on the parkway for chipping. Please note that grass clippings may not be collected by the village in any pick up.
The Village does not have a routine schedule for pickup of leaves and yard waste as it is dependent on crew availability and the volume of leaves that need collecting. The Village does try to collect leaves and yard waste weekly for all residents.
Leaves and yard waste collection will proceed through Friday, November 18. Due to a short Thanksgiving work week, the trucks and crew used for leaves are used for garbage and recycling pick-up and therefore there will be no leaf and yard waste collection during the week of Thanksgiving. Following Thanksgiving, leaves and yard waste must be bagged or containerized for pickup.
Please feel free to contact Kevin Kaegi, Public Works Superintendent at 414-962-6690 Ext. 301 with any questions. Thank you for your cooperation in aiding the Village Public Works Department crews in providing these services.
